It's basically a big example of what NOT to do. Just like his other book, there's never really any action and the titular factory core isn't at all prominent in the book. Instead the Cs (there's not really an MC in the book) play the pronoun game in regards to core A LOT. Back to writing school for this author!
I liked the different premise but I felt like there was no main characters. I could not connect to any of those who were there. They where all secondary. The closest was a demon. I wanted him to win. I only made it to 45% then gave up. Maybe it becomes Better but even that was pushing it.SPOILER, Not reallyWe don't see anything much from the supposedly intelligent core, just those around it. At least in the part I read.
The biggest problem with the book is while the core is supposed to be the smartest collection of great minds ever assembled the writer clearly isn’t making extremely poor tactical decisions repeatedly and showing none of its supposedly incomparable learning functionality.
I really enjoyed this book, but there were a few things that bothered me.Spoilers.The supposed indestructible super weapon was nearly destroyed by a large rock. As a genius machine, it could have at least hidden in a tunnel, but no, it sat in front of the palace and let them throw rocks at it without even trying to move.It had no knowledge of how to defend in a siege. It had access to hundreds of books on tactics, history, and inventions, but was surprised by crude ladders.And the enemy commander was the luckiest character that wasn't a reincarnated MC I have ever seen.There were several other smaller things, like how it could have made an assassin, or tunneled under the enemy, or built a harvester unit to pick up resources during the battles before they dragged them away, scratched off the runes to control it so they couldn't be filled, but those three are the big ones.But ignoring that stuff, it was a fun story that I really enjoyed, and I would love to see a sequel.
I enjoyed the idea of a factory core and premise for setting. Where I lost my joy for the read was where the writer obviously ignored what they wrote earlier. I know why it was done and this brings me some solace but it took me from a solid five star to three.*spoiler* If you say it can simultaneously see and act through all of its units, then having someone as large as the antagonist take advantage of a blind spot is unbelievable.
I like the dungeon core part of the book but it seemed to lag at times In the core seemed to make a logical choices after logical choices and then right at the end it just seemed to go off the rails looking for a super weapon
